Students will focus on fundamentals of traditional oil painting techniques. Topics covered will include arrangement of colors on palette, color mixing, paint application, underpainting, blocking in the composition, and knowledge of care of materials and equipment. Projects will include still live, portrait and figure painting of a clothed model from observation. Prior Drawing experience is required. A list of required material will be provided upon enrollment. Students will be introduced to materials and learn about values, colors and basic techniques of watercolor. Each class will begin with a short discussion on a topic followed by a demonstration. Students will work from still life subjects, photocopies, and/or photos. This will be a structured and sequential class in which students will receive the foundation they need to move on to the next level of study.
Furthermore, this course will focus on becoming more comfortable and gaining a greater familiarity with the medium of watercolor. Students will work on individual projects that they have discussed with their instructor. Includes individual attention and critique to develop the student's personal style and improve skills. Appropriate for students who have past drawing and/or watercolor experience .
